The birds and the bees...

I bought some breakfast napkins from a cute little boutique in Boerne today! I collect petit oiseaux and I just started collecting bee paraphanillia, so I'm really excited to have found these!

They match the monogram cups we bought two years ago from Anthropologie!

Another post coming soon!!!

Easter Eatin'

Easter Dove chocolate eggs in my flow blue goblet!

We had a Mediterranean Easter!

MmmMmMmmm! Baked tender round eyes with sweet red onions based in Greek dressing, cannellini and pasta with dill and lemon sauce, deviled eggs with feta, spring spinach salad, and garlic bread! YUM!

Ready to dig in.

Something's brewing...

I've been on assignment this week for Southwest Signs photographing signage at various sites around SA. Our stop today was at the Pearl Brewery, a historic landmark in uptown on the river that is currently being remodeled into an "urban-suburban hip-hop setting." Okay, I tease, it's not urban-suburban or hip-hop -- sorry Michael Steele. It's a stretch of shops, eateries, cafes, studios, offices, public spaces... you get where I'm going. It's pretty awesome. I have a feeling that, with Southtown's recent string of back luck with First Friday vandalism and other hoodlum-spun mischief, this may become a new arts complex some thirty years down the line. They're already subletting studios to artists (most of which have parents with fat pockets, no doubt) in hopes of moving young professionals in. The realty group that owns and leases these spaces out is the same group that owns the building that houses P S Galleries in Olmos Park, so I'm sure they're asking a pretty penny at Pearl. Anywho, enough of that. But let me not forget to mention the awesome full-scale farmers market that is coming to the Brewery starting in May! There will be a "soft opening" this Saturday starting at nine. Perfect place to get your spring greens for Easter Sunday eatin'!

Here are some randmon pictures I took on the grounds between photo shoots.

Garden

I was trying to clean up my patio garden when I noticed some weathering on one of my birdie hangers. I love the look of weathered things! This is my first "weathered thing," believe it or not. My parents always kept an awesome garden on the side of our house with old planters, hangers, brick walkways, and weathered stone benches. Most of which were found in abandoned yards or given to them from people who knew they loved to recycle garden-stuffs. I loved how they had a history behind them, one that I may never know but could have a lot of fun making up on my own! Even though my birdie hanger has only been around for a year, I think he has a great past -- guarding our new home in a new city with new possibilities!

Speaking of "new," here's a new blossom on our Seed Geranium.

And here's Paco seen through our storm door. He's a cutie.

Kitchen Stories: Valentine's Baking (a month overdue)

I decided to spend a full day cooking/baking for a Valentine's Day Bacchanalia. For breakfast we had mini-quiches (quichettes) with café au lait. I don't think I'll ever shake my Louisiana creole roots--I love french food and coffee with chicory.

Here's our afternoon dessert -- French vanilla cake with banana crème frosting! The dessert plate is part of a tea/dinner set that was passed down to me from my Nanny Connie (godmother = nanny in cajun culture), who a decade before inherited them from my Aunt Anne. I love collecting old plates and other dinnerwares. Yet another hobby I share with my mother.

Saturday Lunch w/ Friends & Fun in Boerne

SF, ST, AP and I went to Chris Madrid's for lunch this past Saturday. It was SF and I's first time eating there, and we loved it! The weather was perfect, and the company was fantastic. After living in SA for nearly two years, SF and I are just starting to really enjoy the city in its entirety.

ST and JLF at Chris Madrid's.

Chedder Cheezy burger from Chris Madrid's!

SF and I visited Boerne, TX (just north of SA) to dine at The Creek Restaurant on Cibolo Creek. The building has an old-timey charm that was very nostalgic for me. The interior reminded me of my great-grandmother's home back in the early 90's when I was a wee one. I'm a sucker for antique and vintage collectibles in homes. I probably spend way too much time in Anthropologie scoping out their kitchen section. Anyhoo, it's a great place to go for a relaxing weekend lunch.

The view from our table at The Creek in Boerne.

I got the "Mexico" burger that came with a toothpick flag!

Obviously, I like burgers...

CHEERS!

Coming soon! But in the meantime, let a cup of the Texas sky cure what ails ya!
